Polydelic Rhythms from the Guinea Coast, 2010

A film by Max Weissenfeldt

“Ghana Panorama” is a concentrated look at moments in which the essence of an ancient culture is ceremonially played out. It does not show a country that actually finds itself in upheaval. Mobile phones, internet, economic growth, oil exploration, road construction, international trade, education politics, Barack Obama’s visit, lasting peace: all this changes the old order. Robbed by colonization of so many layers of its identity and now left to itself, the old order disappears ever faster and a new one – certainly not unproblematic, but more confident—is forming.
